He made his first start of the season for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, and he was fantastic.
His final pitching line: 5.0 innings, 4 hits allowed, 1 walk given up, 10 strikeouts and no runs.
It’s the first time that combination of five stats has ever happened in MLB history, according to Pitchergami.
The rarity starts with the 10 strikeouts in five innings. Two strikeouts per inning for a starter is rare — and for much of baseball history, if a pitcher was dealing that much, he’d stay in the game.

Add in the fact that Soroka didn’t give up any runs and limited base runners, and it was just the right combination of numbers to be unique.
It’s quite cool that when you combine the stats in a certain way, it can be unmatched in the long history of baseball.
It’s also a good thing Soroka was that sharp, because the Diamondbacks’ bullpen gave up six runs to the Detroit Tigers in the seventh inning — but Arizona’s offense had already been good enough in a 9-6 win.
They’ll be hoping Soroka can stay this sharp going forward.
