MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On this day, March 31, 1998, the Milwaukee Brewers played their first game in the National League.
Until this point, the team had played in the American League.
The Brewers’ first National League game was against the Atlanta Braves, in Atlanta.
The Crew ended up losing 2-1, but secured their first National League win a day later.
Milwaukee’s transfer between leagues was the first of its kind since the American League was formed at the beginning of the 1900s.
They became official members of the National League on November 6, 1997, bringing the National League to 16 teams, compared to the American League’s 14 teams.
Since joining the National League, the Brewers have appeared in the playoffs nine times, with two trips to the NLCS,
