Prestonsburg baserunner Crayson Lafferty heads to third base during a 58th District game versus Lawrence County on Wednesday, March 25. Lawrence County swept Prestonsburg in a 58th District baseball series played Tuesday, March 24-Wednesday, March 25. The Bulldogs won 10-5 and 16-0 (4 innings) in back-to-back games.

PRESTONSBURG — Prestonsburg pulled away to defeat visiting Martin County 9-2 on Friday, March 27. 

The Blackcats scored first and never trailed. Prestonsburg

plated four runs during the bottom half of the opening inning. 

Rylan Tussey started on the mound for Prestonsburg and earned the win. Tussey pitched three and two-thirds innings and recorded three strikeo9uts 

Following Tussey, Wyatt Patton and Braydon Maines each pitched in relief for the Blackcats.

Hunter Moore started on the mound for Martin County and suffered the loss. 

Following Moore, Dylan Hale pitched in relief for the Cardinals.

Each Martin County pitched worked three innings and posted one strikeout. 

Prestonsburg plated nine runs on 12 hits. Cruiz Clark (three hits, one RBI), Barrett Hunter (three hits, one RBI), Crayson Lafferty (one hit, two RBIs), Brody Napier (one hit, one RBI), Aaron Jarrell (one hit, one RBI), Kaim Patton (one hit), Brady Allen (one hit), Sam Hyden (one hit) and Luke Hall (one RBI) each aided Prestonsburg at the plate. Supplying an extra-base hit, Kain Patton doubled.  

Martin County pushed across two runs on seven hits. Moore (one hit), Hale (one hit), Noah Bowens (two hits, one RBI), Caige Presley (one hit), Knox Maynard (one hit), Gunner Broaddus (one hit) and Dylan Spence (one RBI) each contributed offensively for the Cardinals. 

Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Martin County for another game on Saturday, April 11.
