Triple-A: Memphis Redbirds 10, Norfolk Tides 5

Jackson Holliday registered his first two hits on his rehab assignment, but it wasn’t enough to power the Tides to a win over the Redbirds.

Norfolk fell behind early in the 2nd, thanks to a two-out rally from Memphis. Cade Povich gave up three straight two-out doubles to allow Memphis to take a 3-0 lead. The Tides would rally back in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at three. José Barrero led off the inning with a solo shot to make it 3-1. After Jud Fabian was hit by a pitch and Enrique Bradfield walked, Holliday singled to right-center to push across Fabian. Bradfield then scored on a double play ball to tie things at three.

That was the last time the Tides would be level with the Redbirds as Povich struggled to keep runs off the board. Blaze Jordan homered off the lefty in the 3rd to make things 4-3, and then former Oriole farmhand César Prieto hit another solo homer to increase the lead to 5-3. Povich exited after the 5th with a final line of 5 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 8 K and 2 HR.

Holliday would lead off the 8th with a double and later scored on a double from Creed Willems. However, that run still had the Tides down 9-5 and couldn’t spark any more of a rally for Norfolk. Offseason addition Jhonkensy Noel was the only other member of the Tides with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a solo HR in the 7th.
