Buffalo Bisons 3, Charlotte Knights 2 (Statcast box) (opener) (7 innings)
Two losses in one day put Charlotte further away from the elusive .500 record they have yet to return to since early in the season. Charlotte’s opener was a bit of a snoozer. Brooks Baldwin hit the only home run of the game in the fourth inning, when he sent the ball over the right field wall. Charlotte extended its lead to 2-0 in the sixth by capitalizing on Leo Jiménez’s fielding error with two outs and runners on the corners. Outside of Baldwin, the offense was sluggish.

Tyler Schweitzer pitched his best Triple-A game this year, by far. He held Buffalo to four hits and three strikeouts in six scoreless innings. But much like the White Sox, the relievers blew a decent start. Adisyn Coffey relinquished a two-run home run in the seventh with two outs and let Alan Roden walk the Bisons off for the second straight game with an RBI single.

Buffalo Bisons 5, Charlotte Knights 2 (Statcast box) (nightcap) (7 innings)
Charlotte’s weak offense carried over to nightcap. Dominic Fletcher and Zach DeLoach knocked in the only runs, from singles in the second. Amid the inactive lineup, at least recently-acquired Dru Baker scored his first run with the Sox organization.

The silent offense didn’t do any favors for starter Evan McKendry, allowed seven hits, four runs, and a home run in 4 1⁄3 frames. McKendry has been mostly solid in Triple-A, so his blunder and Charlotte’s weak offensive day was a perfect storm for the Knights to drop to 25-29.

Knoxville Smokies 1, Birmingham Barons 0 (opener) (7 innings)
The Barons had enough offense, but failed to convert on two opportunities: Wilfred Veras grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded in the third, and Calvin Harris struck out swinging to strand runners on first and second to end the inning.

Hats off to Shane Murphy, though, for another strong start. He only surrendered a solo home run to the Smokies while striking out five over five innings. Grant Taylor came in to easily retire the side in the sixth, but it didn’t make up for the Barons’ missed chances.

Birmingham Barons 2, Knoxville Smokies 0 (closer) (7 innings)
Birmingham’s low offensive output still managed to pay off in its nightcap, thanks to some fabulous pitching. Ryan Galanie pushed a two-run RBI to notch the only two runs of a five-run total affair. Dalton Roach (4 IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K) Andrew Dalquist (2 IP, 1 BB, 2 K), and Garrett Schoenle (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) worked a shutout to get even with the Smokies.

Winston-Salem Dash 4, Hub City Spartanburgers 3 (12 innings)
The Dash stretched the farm’s stagnant offensive streak. Terrell Tatum scored the first run after walking, stealing second and third, and taking advantage of Kolton Curtis’ wild pitch in the third inning. Winston-Salem was graced with another run the next inning after what should’ve been a routine double play dissolved into a force out, scoring Alec Makarewicz. Two innings later, Luke Bell gave up two runs to allow the Spartanburgers to tie the game, 2-2.

After a five-inning scoring drought, the Matt Hogan broke the tie with an RBI single that handed the Dash the lead. Braden Montgomery came through for with a timely hit — his first and only of the game — shortly after, with an RBI double to lead Hub City, 4-2. The Spartanburgers tried to make a comeback, but it fell just short to Dash closer Carson Jacobs.

ACL White Sox 6, ACL Royals 4
The Complex Sox upended a division rival, courtesy of a sweet crooked number in the seventh. Down 3-2 at a point where some ACL games end, the White Sox capitalized thanks to run-scoring hits from Adrian Gil (RBI single), Mason Dinesen (RBI double) and Grant Smith (two-RBI single). But the top star tonight might have been Jeremy Gonzalez, who stepped in for a decent Mathias LaCombe (4 IP, 2 ER)in a shared start and went four scoreless innings.
