LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers look to win Game Three of their ribber match against the Cleveland Guardians later tonight, the team will also finish off a rare feat that has not been done in Major League Baseball history.

According to Elias, the Dodgers will become the first team in MLB history to start a Japanese-born pitcher in three consecutive games while also doing so in an entire series in their interleague match-up versus the Guardians.

Game One: Roki Sasaki Impresses in 2026 Debut

Game One on Monday night featured the 2026 season debut of young right-hander Roki Sasaki, who surprised many critics by tossing four innings of one-run ball before handing the game to the bullpen.

The offense was unable to get anything going and dropped their first game of the season, ending their win streak to open the season at three after sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Game Two: Shohei Ohtani Extends Scoreless Streak

Game Two was arguably an even bigger spectacle as two-way superstar and four-time MVP award winner Shohei Ohtani was set to make his 2026 debut on the mound.

Ohtani proceeded to toss six scoreless innings, extending his regular-season scoreless innings streak to 22.1 innings dating back to last season.

The Dodgers’ offense put together four runs, evening the short three-game series and setting up today’s rubber match at Chavez Ravine.

Game Three: Yoshinobu Yamamoto Closes the Historic Trio

Game Three, which will be played today, will feature the second start of the 2026 regular season for 2025 World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto, ending the trio of Japanese-born starters set to pitch this series.

Yamamoto looked sharp in his season debut last week during Opening Day as the right-hander tossed six innings, allowing just two runs on a two-run home run to Geraldo Perdomo.

It is no secret that the Dodgers have made massive strides in the Japanese market since signing Ohtani to a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million deal during the 2024 offseason.

That reach has now even gone further with the addition of Yamamoto and Sasaki, along with a rare three-day showing of that Japanese talent pool.
