March 31, 2026 – Emporia State baseball clinched the midweek series win over Missouri Western with an 8-3 win on Tuesday afternoon from the Trusler Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The visitors struck first on Tuesday with a two-out single in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead over the Hornets. Emporia State finally struck back in the bottom of the second, as Logan Myers delivered a two-out double to score Tyler Coffin and make the score 1-1.
The Hornets took their first lead of the game in the third, as Frankie Santiago launched his 12th home run this season to put the Hornets in front 2-1.
In the third, Missouri Western picked up a pair of two-out hits on their way to tying the game 2-2. Emporia State answered back in the bottom half, as Dominic Felix singled to lead off the frame, and then later scored on an RBI single by Myers.
Missouri Western scored again in the fourth to force the third tie of the afternoon, but the Hornets responded with a four-run bottom of the fourth, which included RBI from Tyler Coffin, Dominic Felix, and Evan Abbott to put Emporia State ahead 7-3.
Graeme Rios took over on the mound in the sixth and immediately stifled the Griffon hitters, as he pitched three perfect innings to keep the score at 7-3. Emporia State would add a final run to their tally in the bottom of the eighth, as Brady Unrein scored Evan Abbott with a bunt to make the score 8-3.
Owen Ruge entered in the ninth and retired all three batters faced to seal the 8-3 win as Emporia State clinched the series win over the Griffons.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Logan Myers and Frankie Santiago both tallied multi-hit games with Myers driving in two runs. Santiago was one of five more Hornets with an RBI on the afternoon on his solo home run in the third.
On the mound, Graeme Rios earned his third win in relief this season behind 3.0 perfect frames. Five Hornet pitchers combined to allow five hits and just one walk in the game.

Emporia State will host the series between Newman and the Hornets which begins on Thursday, April 2 at the Trusler Sports Complex. The series moved from Wichita to Emporia which means the Jets will remain the home team on the scoreboard throughout the series. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
