GALESBURG, Ill. — The Quincy Blue Devils continue to play solid, fundamental baseball as they extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 road win over Western Big 6 Conference rival Galesburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The key for Quincy High’s success was once again its strong pitching as the Blue Devils defeated Galesburg for the second time in the past three days.
Blue Devils starting pitcher Cameron Lawson threw three innings with four strikeouts in a no decision after allowing two hits, two walks and one earned run.
Relief pitcher James Day earned the win for Quincy after pitching four innings with five strikeouts, while allowing one hit, two walks and no earned runs.
“Good pitching by Cameron and James,” said QHS head coach Rick Lawson. “Good defense and found a way to get it done.”
Day also came through with the big hit to put the Blue Devils ahead, a three-RBI single that scored Ty Lawson, Jacob Salisbury and Drake Gibson.
Gibson went 2-for-3 with a run, while shortstop Mason Powell went 1-for-3 with a double.
Silver Streaks starting pitcher TJ Heatherly threw a complete game with eight strikeouts, while allowing six hits, no walks and two earned runs in a losing effort.
Up next for QHS (5-1-1) is a road game against Palmyra (5-2) at 4:30 p.m.. on Thursday.
