The Boston Red Sox lost their 5th straight game, losing to the Houston Astros 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon in Houston.

Boston’s batters managed only 7 hits, striking out 13 times and were just 1-7 with runners in scoring position.

Wilyer Abreu was 2-4 with his 3rd homer of the season, a solo shot in the 8th inning.

Roman Anthony pinch hit in the 9th inning and hit a home run, his 1st of the season.

Connor Wong was 2-3 with a double. Wong got the start when manager Alex Cora pulled Carlos Narvaez from the starting lineup 2 hours before the game. Narvaez’s scratch was not due to an injury and neither Cora or Narvaez commented to the press on the reason why he was not in the starting lineup.

Jarren Duran and Willson Contreras each had a single and run batted in.

Caleb Durban’s woes continued at the plate, with 2 more strikeouts and he is now 0-18 to start the season.

On the mound Garrett Crochet took the loss pitching 5.0 innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, 4 of which were earned. He struck out 7 and didn’t walk a batter. The big blow was Carlos Correa’s 3-run homer in the 5th inning.

Greg Weissert pitched the 6th inning. Drew Coulombe pitched the 7th inning allowing 1 hit, a home run, striking out 1. Garrett Whitlock pitched a scoreless 8th inning, walking 2 and striking out 1.

Boston is now 1-5 to start the season. The Red Sox are off on Thursday. They begin a 6-game homestand on Friday, April 3rd with 3 games against San Diego and 3 games with the Milwaukee Brewers. Friday’s pregame begins at 1:10 with the 1st pitch at 2:10 on WDEA AM 1370.
