Blue Jays 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. signed a sponsorship agreement with premier youth sports experiential company FlexWork Sports to “be the face” of its baseball programming across the U.S., Canada and other global markets, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY. Guerrero is the company’s “first” sponsor. He will “host 11 youth events the next two years for youth and family.” FlexWork wanted Guerrero after “seeing him work at their baseball camp a year ago and watching how the kids gravitated towards him.” Guerrero signed a two-year agreement, but the company is “hoping their relationship lasts much longer.” They are “hoping to have camps featuring Guerrero” in the U.S., Canada and in the Dominican Republic, where he lives in the offseason. FlexWork Sports has “conducted more than 2,000 youth-sports experiential events in 44 states and 18 countries, featuring about 700 athletes,” including Angles RF Mike Trout, Dodgers SS Mookie Betts, Phillies DH Kyle Schwarber and Padres RF Fernando Tatis, as well as Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, Knicks C Karl-Anthony Towns and Sparks F Cameron Brink. FlexWorks is now “projected to have about 385 events this year” (USA TODAY, 4/1).
