The Ontario Tower Buzzers, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ newest Minor League Baseball team, started their first season with a sold-out crowd at ONT Field.

“We love it,” fan Danny Mejia said. “It’s state-of-the-art.”

Thousands of fans like Mejia decked themselves out in the familiar blue and got aquainted to the franchise’s newest Single-A affiliate in the California League.

“Yeah, it’s kind of like a second Dodger stadium,” fan Ava Perez said.

The team’s unique name, the Tower Buzzers, references the iconic movie series “Top Gun” and also connects to the city’s aviation history. It’s also right next to Ontario International Airport, which was used as a military air base during World War II. Fans can also watch airplanes take off and land while they’re enjoying the game.

The $100 million stadium seats about 6,000 people and offers affordable tickets that start at $13. Families said they appreciate the affordability.

“Especially, with how this economy is right now,” Mejia said.

While the Tower Buzzers lost their Thursday night game against the Lake Elsinore Storm, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres, the new team has inspired young fans like Eli Delal, who says that he can see himself playing out on the field one day.

“I play first, left field, outfield and pitcher,” Delal said.
