LEHMAN — The St. Marys softball team hit the road on Thursday for a long trek to Lake-Lehman High School — a roughly three-hour trek — to square off with the Knights on their home field in a pitchers’ duel.

Lake-Lehman pitcher Hannah Chipego limited the Lady Dutch to just one run on one hit while striking out 14 — and also hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first — to lead her squad to a 4-1 victory.

St. Marys pitcher Kelsie Fledderman had a strong outing against a solid opponent, working all six innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits and four walks, striking out five.

Addison Beimel had the visitors’ only hit — a one-out single in the sixth — but she was stranded when Lake-Lehman turned a double play on a liner to second.

St. Marys’ only other baserunner was Giuliana Muccio, who reached base twice via walks. In the second inning, she was stranded at first, but in the fifth, she scored her team’s only run.

The inning began with a leadoff walk to Muccio, who then took the final three bases on wild pitches/passed balls while Chipego struck out the next three hitters.

Chipego wasn’t the only player to homer for Lake-Lehman, as Kaitlyn Brudnicki belted a solo shot to lead off the two-run fifth.

The host saw its first four hitters — Brudnicki, Brooke Reilly, Chipego and Julia Sholtis — each drive in one run.

St. Marys (1-3) returns to action on Monday with a home game against Punxsutawney.
