The Pittsburgh Pirates not only have their 2026 regular season home-opener on Friday but officially promoted top prospect Konnor Griffin just hours ahead of the game vs. the Baltimore Orioles as well.

Griffin is starting at shortstop in the contest and will be batting seventh.

“7/162,” the Pirates’ official account posted on Bluesky.

Griffin’s debut is by far the most anticipated of the young season and the hype surrounding the 19-year-old is unmatched in recent MLB history.

The 2024 first-round pick has passed every test in the minor leagues since being drafted and was off to a fast start with Triple-A Indianapolis before Friday’s promotion.

Griffin went 7-for-16 with three doubles, four runs scored and three stolen bases across five games with the Indians this season.
