CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland Guardians announced that longtime public address announcer Bob Tayek will be away from Progressive Field for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he focuses on recent health challenges.
In a team statement, the Guardians said Tayek is expected to return to his role once he is “back on his feet,” which would mark his 27th season as the in-park voice of Cleveland baseball.
Tayek has been a fixture at Progressive Field since the late 1990s, becoming a familiar part of the gameday experience for multiple generations of Guardians fans. During his absence, the organization said it will use a team of interim public address announcers to maintain the standard fans have come to expect.
The Guardians added they look forward to the day Tayek’s “familiar voice once again echoes throughout the ballpark.”
