Area Prep Baseball Report for Sunday, April 5
Destrehan is a red hot team. More evidence of that came Saturday at home when the Wildcats won their eighth straight game, handling Terrebonne 10-2 in District 8-5A play.
Destrehan scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and matched that with five runs in the third inning.
Chase Mire stole the show for the Wildcats, pitching five innings, allowing two runs with five strikeouts. At the plate, Mire drove in two runs while Landyn Dugas also drove in a pair of runs. Chase Marcotte had two hits, including a double.
Both teams return to district play next week.
Destrehan (22-9, 5-0) will host fellow district unbeaten Hahnville in a showdown Tuesday with a district title at stake.
The Tigers (9-18, 1-4) will play at H.L. Bourgeois Tuesday.
In District 7-3A, St. James drilled Patterson 16-1 at home in five innings.
The game was tied 1-1 going to the bottom of the second when the Wildcats scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead. St. James scored two runs in the fourth to make it 8-1 and the Wildcats finished it with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Landon Gravois had two hits and three RBI while Landen Rome had a hit and three RBI for the Wildcats. Sy Jackson had two hits and two RBI and Braden Scioneaux had two hits and an RBI. Jamari Landor had a hit and two RBI and Brody Lasseigne added a hit and an RBI.
Luke Becnel went the distance to get the win, allowing a run on four hits. Becnel walked three and struck out six.
St. James (18-5, 4-0) returns to action Tuesday with a district doubleheader at Donaldsonville.
The Lumberjacks (5-20, 2-2) will play at Catholic-Pointe Coupee Monday.
