The Philadelphia Phillies have been around in Major League Baseball for a very long time. They began in 1883 and have played in well over 20,000 games in MLB history.

With so many games played, there’s bound to be plenty of interesting pieces of history and records that the Phillies have set over the years. One of which involves the very straightforward statistic of a hit.

One piece of MLB history the Phillies can set very soon, likely during the Colorado Rockies game on April 5th, is the hits-allowed record. As @tgpschmenk posted on Twitter/x, the Phillies are only two hits away from giving up 200,000 in their franchise history, which would make for the first team to reach that mark.

Phillies just two hits away from allowing 200,000 in franchise history

“No MLB franchise has given up 200,000 hits in their history,” @tgpschmenk shared. “The Phillies come into this afternoon’s game in Colorado sitting at 199,998.”

The Phillies have given up 199,998 hits in their 21,818 games in franchise history. Just two more hits, and the Phillies will be the first and only team to ever allow 200,000 hits in franchise history.

With Taijaun Walker on the mound at Coors Field in Colorado, it would be a major surprise if the Phillies held the Rockies to just one hit.

Currently, based on their games played and hits allowed, the Phillies are allowing teams, on average, to record over nine hits per game.

These are inflated numbers thanks to the brutal stretch from the 1910’s through the 1940’s for the Phillies, which has significantly altered their standing in all franchise records across Major League Baseball.

What makes this record even more ridiculous is that the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs had a seven-year head start on the Phillies, and neither is close to this Phillies 200,000 hit record.

The Braves have allowed 199,306 hits in 22,388 games, while the Cubs have allowed 198,504 hits in 22,424 games.

The Phillies may never relinquish this record, and they are very likely to continue being the first team to allow 200,000 hits, 210,000 hits, and so on as MLB history continues.

Whoever hits the 200,000th hit against the Phillies will have their name go down in history, and it would be very fitting if former first-overall pick Mickey Moniak was the one to set this record.

He hits third against the Phillies in what’s likely to be the game in which the Phillies franchise becomes the only one to have allowed at least 200,000 hits in their franchise history, leading all teams by a margin that might never be beat.
