The Toronto Blue Jays could have a difficult decision on their hands.
After being swept by the Chicago White Sox, Toronto should be searching for answers about how to turn its losing ways around. A boost on offense may be the first step in flipping the switch.
Veteran Eloy Jimenez signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays during the offseason. The former Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles slugger hit a personal best 31 home runs during his rookie year in 2019, but injuries and inconsistent performance derailed his career.
“The right-handed slugger is best known for his time with the White Sox, garnering considerable hype as one of baseball’s top prospects leading up to his big league debut in 2019,” MLB.com’s Thomas Harrigan wrote in January. “Chicago signed him to a six-year, $43 million contract that March, days before his first MLB game.”

TSN reports that Jimenez won the Legends Player of the Week award for his hot start at the plate at Triple-A Buffalo. He’s slashing .375/.429/.542 with one home run and five RBI in seven games thus far.

Could the Blue Jays consider calling up Jimenez? His defensive limitations could lead to a disheartening conclusion for the 29-year-old. Jimenez is mainly a DH at this point in his career, partially playing first base.
That’s not much to work with for Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
