CLEVELAND, Ohio. (KCTV) – As the Kansas City Royals arrived in Cleveland this week for a three-game series with the Guardians, they were joined by Michael Massey.
The Royals second baseman rejoined the team Monday after being activated from the injured list, the club announced. The 28-year-old who could see time in the outfield this season opened the season with the Omaha Storm Chasers as he dealt with a left calf strain suffered during Spring Training.
In a corresponding move, the Royals optioned utility man Nick Loftin to Triple-A. Loftin played in four of the first nine games for the Royals, going 2-for-9 at the plate.
Massey rejoins the MLB club following a disappointing 2025 season for Kansas City. Last year, he had a .244 batting average and a career-worst on-base and slugging percentage during 77 games with the big-league team.
Massey was not in the starting lineup for Monday night’s series-opener against the Guardians.
The Royals are 4-5 through the first week and a half of the 2026 season.
