Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig, 32, a fourth-year MLBer out of Aptos, was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left UCL sprain.
The move was made retroactive to Sunday.
The injury is “a big concern,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy told mlb.com.
The Brewers recalled LHP Shane Drohan from Nashville Sounds to replace Koenig.
The most serious case of a UCL injury requires Tommy John surgery and a year of rehabilitation.
According to Murphy, Koenig will initially try treatment. In the best-case scenario, Koenig could return to action in two to four weeks. It’s likely that Koenig will exercise his right to a second opinion, Murphy told MLB.com.
Koenig appeared in three games this season, spanning 2 1/3 innings. He gave up three hits, two walks, two unearned runs, and struck out four batters.
He made a career-high 72 appearances for the Brewers in 2025, when he posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 66 innings. He posted a 6-1 record with two saves and was named MLB Pitcher of the Year at the 40th annual Hot Stove of Santa Clara Valley banquet on Jan. 13.
