Chicago Cubs Sign 5-Year MLB Player

The Cubs got tough news on Tuesday regarding star pitcher Cade Horton.
Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network wrote: “Cade Horton will have surgery on his UCL and miss the rest of the season.”
Amid their injury troubles, the team has signed Tyler Beede to a minor league deal.
Tommy Birch of Des Moines Register wrote: “RHP Tyler Beede has signed a minor league deal with the Cubs and joined the @IowaCubs. Beede was with the Cubs earlier this year but released in March.”
Beede most recently appeared in 13 games for the Cleveland Guardians during the 2024 season.

Beede was the 14th pick in the 2014 MLB Draft.
He spent most of his career playing for the San Francisco Giants.
Following the Giants, the 32-year-old had stints with the Pirates and Guardians.
Over 71 career games, Beede has gone 8-16 with a 5.55 ERA.

The Cubs have gone just 4-6 in their first ten games of the season.
Before the Rays, they had lost two out of three (at home) to the Guardians.
Following the Rays, they will head back to Wrigley Field for a series with the Pirates that starts on Friday.

Despite their recent struggles (and injuries), the Cubs have a very talented roster that is expected to return to the MLB playoffs in 2026.
