Blackford High School’s Mari Leggett was named to the North team roster for the Indiana All-Star boys basketball Futures Game.

The contest will be played on June 1 at New Palestine High School. The game features squads comprised of Indiana freshmen and sophomores.

Leggett will be making his second appearance in the game. He was named the MVP of last season’s clash, tallying 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals.

He earned his second trip after a season that saw him average 26.3 points per game, third in the state, and lead Blackford to a sectional title.

YORKTOWN — Delta’s baseball team got down early to the Yorktown Tigers, but came back to win 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Eagles (1-1, 1-0 HHC) gave up four runs in the first inning and another in the second to go down 5-0 to Yorktown (0-1, 0-1 HHC).

Delta started to chip into the deficit with two runs in the third inning, one in the fifth and another in the sixth and took the lead with a three-run seventh. Everett Linn then delivered the two-run double to put the Eagles on top and finished with three RBIs on two hits.

Maddox Huffman struck out one batter in a scoreless seventh for the save.

Sebastian Gillum earned the win after holding Yorktown scoreless over 3 2/3 innings.

WARTRACE, Tennessee — Blackford High School’s baseball team opened its season by going 1-3 at the Viking Classic.

The Bruins opened Thursday with a 3-1 loss to Sequatchie County. Trenton Norton reached base in all three plate appearances and drove in Blackford’s only run.

Blackford then fell 7-3 to Middle Tennessee. Corbin Parrott drove in two runs and Trey McIntire added a double.

The Bruins earned their first win Friday, beating Hubbard 8-4. Logan Hornbaker and Kaden Price had three hits apiece, and McIntire struck out eight in a complete-game victory.

Blackford closed the trip with a 9-8 loss to host Cascade. McIntire hit a home run and drove in four runs.

After three seasons and taking the Eagles to their first regional championship, Ty’Ronda Benning announced on April 1 that she would be stepping away as coach of the Delta High School girls basketball team.

Benning said she wants to spend more time with her family.

During her three seasons at Delta, Benning had led the Eagles to a 45-29 record (60.8%). She also led Delta to its first sectional title since 1993 and the first regional title in school history back in the 2024-25 season.

DHS has posted the position and is taking applications. Delta athletic director Lynde Bratton hopes to have a candidate within a month to present to the school board.

MUNCIE — The Delta softball team gave up seven runs in the sixth inning to fall to the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers on Monday.

The Tigers (1-0) scored an early run in the second inning to jump out in front of Delta (0-2). Jordyn Hughes scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to even the game up on a single by A Ewry.

The Eagles couldn’t keep the game tied as Jacquelin Linn ran out of steam in the circle to give up five earned runs. She suffered the loss with six earned runs on three hits and five walks.

Haley Loser allowed two more runs in the fifth inning after relieving Linn.

Everly Carter had the only hit outside of Ewry for the Eagles.
