JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Major League Baseball’s hottest prospect, who is a Jackson native, has signed a 9-year deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Konnor Griffin, a Jackson Prep graduate, signed a reported $140 million deal with the franchise on Tuesday. It is the largest contract in Pirates history.
This comes after the 19-year-old made his MLB debut at shortstop last Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles, a game in which he also recorded his first major league hit and RBI.
“It feels great knowing I will be a Pittsburgh Pirate for a long time,” Griffin said. “The goal is to win every year. And I believe we can do that.”
Griffin was drafted by the Pirates in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
He was the MLB’s No. 1 prospect before being called up by the Pirates.
His extension will run through 2034.
