Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas was scratched from the lineup just ahead of Tuesday’s game with the Toronto Blue Jays, and he revealed early Wednesday morning that the reason was his father’s sudden death.
He took to Instagram to share the news.
“With immense pain on the part of the whole Rojas family, today I have to let you know everyone who had the opportunity to meet and share with my father Miguel Rojas ‘Micky’ who yesterday April 7 died suddenly in the afternoon hours,” Rojas wrote in Spanish. “I want to sincerely thank everyone who has reached out to me and my entire family to show their love and let us know how loved my dad was throughout his life. May God receive him in his glory and rest in peace ?”
He added a photo of his father and his son alongside a heartbreaking caption.
“You left dad and what hurts me the most is that I didn’t get to say goodbye ???”
Our thoughts are with the Rojas family.

Rojas, who was filling in for the injured Mookie Betts, was replaced by the recently called-up Hyeseong Kim.
Kim had a good game Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a walk and scoring two runs.
He also made a highlight defensive play in the Dodgers’ 4-1 win.
What’s Next for the Dodgers?
Presumably, Kim will continue filling in at shortstop for the near future as Rojas tends to his family and Betts remains on the IL with his oblique injury, though Betts has noted that he’s in a “much better spot than originally anticipated,” and he “doesn’t even really notice that it hurts.”
The Dodgers (9-2) and Blue Jays (4-7) will face off again in the series finale Wednesday. First pitch is set for 12:07 p.m. PT.
Shohei Ohtani will get the start for the Boys in Blue, while the Jays will start Dylan Cease.
The Boys in Blue then have Thursday off as they travel back to Los Angeles ahead of a series with the Texas Rangers, which begins Friday.
