The baseball world received some sad news yesterday, as it was announced that former Phillies first base coach Davey Lopes passed away at the age of 80. A prolific base stealer, Lopes first etched himself into Phillies lore with the infamous “Black Friday” game in the 1977 NLCS, a series Lopes’ Dodgers would go on to win. But Lopes came all the way back around in the minds of Phillies fans, as he became the first base coach for Philadelphia from 2007-2010 and was instrumental in Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, and Jayson Werth becoming the elite, successful base stealers they were on a championship team.
