ST. MARYS — Playing a home-and-away with Kane on Wednesday, the end results were quite similar for the Elk County Catholic softball and baseball teams, as the Lady Crusaders won 15-0 in four innings on their home field, while the Crusaders picked up an 11-3 road win.
For the softball squad, Lanie Weisner had herself quite a game, pitching a two-hit shutout — walking one and striking out seven in the process — and helping her own cause on the offensive side with a home run, a double, a single, four runs scored and three RBIs out of the leadoff spot.
The home run was an exclamation point on the game, giving ECC its 15th run and serving as a walk-off of sorts, as it enacted the 15-run mercy rule and ended the contest with one out in the fourth inning.
Bailey Thorwart added three hits — including a triple and a double — for ECC to go with a team-high four RBIs, and Avery Stauffer and Brynlee Schutz each added a double, a single and one RBI.
Alexa Uhl had the team’s fifth double, Jenna Schatz added a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Anna Geci rounded out the 14-hit day for ECC with a single.
The winners put a different crooked number on the scoreboard in each inning — two in the first, six in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth.
ECC (2-2) is scheduled to play at home today against Brookville.

While the softball squad was doing its thing at home, the baseball team was at Kane, where the Crusaders fell behind by one early, but used a six-run second inning to give some separation, then pulled away late for an 11-3 victory over the Wolves.
Paxton Herzing pounded four doubles and drove in five runs to pace the ECC offense, with Frankie Smith and Matthew Gilmore each tripling and singling once.
Landon Smith and Wyatt Brem each had a double and a single, with Smith also driving in a pair of runs. Charlie Geci added a single and an RBI, and Gideon Cronk and Jack Breindel rounded out the team’s 15-hit total with one single each.
Breindel pitched the first two innings for the Crusaders, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks, fanning five, while Brady Leathers pitched the final five to earn the win. He was charged with two runs, both unearned, on two hits and a walk, striking out five.
ECC improved to 3-2 with the victory and will play today at Brookville.
