For a twelfth consecutive season, the Boaz Pirates baseball team is headed into postseason play after taking down the Douglas Eagles 11-1 on Thursday evening. With the area win over Douglas, the Pirates improve to 19-8 for the season. Douglas would fall to a 13-9 record. 

To start the area matchup, the Pirates would strike first with a run at the bottom of the first inning as Dayton Porter would hit a home run to center field to give Boaz an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles would fight back against the Pirates as Maddox Duvall would score due to a bases loaded walk by Boaz to make it a 1-1 tie. 

The Pirates would claim the lead for good as Boaz would produce two runs at the bottom of the third inning. The inning would begin with Mac Thompson drawing a walk followed by a double by Garrison Lusk and another walk by Porter. A Fielder’s Choice would allow Thompson to score a run while a double by Beau Bennett would bring home Lusk to make it a 3-1 lead. 

Boaz would put the game away in the fourth inning as they produced seven runs. The runs were scored by Beau Bennett, Mason Gaither, Thompson, Lusk, Porter and Sage Bennett. A final run by Landon Cannady would give the Pirates an 11-1 win in five innings. 

On the mound for Boaz was Marshall Burns who pitched three innings. Burns allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out one. In relief, Beau Bennett pitched the final two innings where he allowed zero hits and runs while producing two strikeouts. 

The Boaz bats were led by Porter and Lusk who each produced two hits. Beau Bennett would lead the team with three RBIs. 

On the mound for Douglas was Baker Lyles who pitched 3.1 innings. Lyles would produce a strikeout. 

The Douglas bats would be led by Duvall, Eli Watts and Judson Murray who all finished with a hit. Cade Lewis would have the lone RBI for the Eagles. 

Up next for the Pirates will see them travel to face the Sardis Lions on Tuesday with a start time set for 4:30 p.m.
