Two pitches later, Harper sent a fastball into the Phillies’ bullpen in right-center, making it 4-2.

Schwarber’s fourth home run and Harper’s third of the season proved to be enough support for Walker, who induced a double play to get through the fifth.

Tigers 6, Marlins 1

DETROIT — Riley Greene homered, singled and drove in four runs as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Miami Marlins for the second straight game.

Greene had an RBI single in the first inning and has reached base safely in all 15 games this season.

In the third inning, after falling behind quickly in the count, 0-2, Greene fouled off five pitches and evened the count at 2-2 before sending a 408-foot, three-run shot to right center off Miami starter Janson Junk.

Tigers starter Casey Mize allowed one run on six hits and struck out five in 5â…” innings to improve to 1-1. Greene reached base three times and also had a stolen base, and Kerry Carpenter added a double.

O’Neil Cruz singled and stole second to begin the third. Cabrera then walked Lowe and allowed Bryan Reynolds’ RBI single, pushing the Pirates’ lead to 2-0. Ryan O’Hearn followed with a sacrifice fly to give Pittsburgh a 3-0 advantage.

Cincinnati attacked Angels starter George Klassen (0-1) early on, scoring four off the rookie right-hander in the first.

Sal Stewart got it going with an RBI single to bring home Steer, who drew a one-out walk to set the tone. After Klassen loaded the bases, Lowe cleared them with his three-run double for a 4-0 lead after the opening frame.

Steer crossed home for the second time in as many innings with his second home run of the season, a line drive off the left-field foul pole.

Athletics 11, Mets 6

NEW YORK — Tyler Soderstrom and Carlos Cortes each homered during a five-run third inning for the surging Athletics, who held off a rally from the New York Mets to earn a victory.

Rays 5, Yankees 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Jonathan Aranda chopped an infield single against a five-man infield with one out in the 10th inning and the Tampa Bay Rays outlasted the New York Yankees for a victory.

After Yandy Diaz was intentionally walked, Bednar struck out Hunter Feduccia. Aranda swung and missed at a fastball but on the next pitch he chopped a splitter to second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Chisholm charged in and bobbled the ball as he attempted to field it in the baseline and Chandler Simpson easily scored the game-winning run. Aranda’s hit capped a day when the Rays came back from three one-run deficits.

Cole Sulser (1-0) allowed Jose Caballero’s two-out RBI single in the top half of the 10th but gave the Rays a chance to rally by retiring Amed Rosario on a groundout.

Caballero also hit a two-run double in the eighth off Bryan Baker but the Rays tied it at 3 in the bottom half when Simpson scored on Diaz’s infield single to first baseman Ben Rice.

Aranda lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Rays a 2-1 lead in the sixth and Jonny DeLuca hit a tying RBI single in the second.

Jose Ramirez homered in the first for the Guardians, who have won three-of-four. Five players had one hit each for the Braves, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Messick (2-0) gave up four hits and walked two while striking out five. The Braves built their lone threat against the left-hander in the fifth, when Ronald Acuña Jr. tripled with two outs before Messick struck out Drake Baldwin.

The 25-year-old rookie lowered his ERA this season to 0.51 and dropped his career ERA to 2.04 in 10 starts dating back to last year.

Cleveland’s Rhys Hoskins had an RBI groundout in the sixth and Chase DeLauter laced a run-scoring double in the eighth before Cleveland added three insurance runs in the ninth in unusual fashion.

Atlanta starter Martin Perez (0-1) took the hard-luck loss after allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out two over five innings. The 35-year-old left-hander, who is pitching for his seventh big league team, lowered his ERA to 3.14 in three games (two starts).

Orioles 6, Giants 2

Padres 9, Rockies 5

SAN DIEGO — Manny Machado and Ramon Laureano homered as the San Diego Padres overcame an early 4-0 deficit to stop the visiting Colorado Rockies.

San Diego’s German Marquez (2-1) won in his first start against the team for which he pitched the past 10 years. Marquez permitted four runs on four hits in five innings, walking two and striking out five in his second straight victory.

Laureano gave the Padres a 6-4 lead in the fourth when he pounced on a hanging changeup from Ryan Feltner (1-1), lining it an estimated 388 feet into the left-field seats for his third homer of the year. Laureano collected two hits and two walks, scoring three runs to lead the team’s 10-hit attack.

Machado capped San Diego’s three-run third inning when he drilled a 3-0 fastball from Feltner 403 feet into the bleachers in left-center for his second homer. It scored Jackson Merrill, who knocked in the first run on a fielder’s choice bouncer.

Feltner allowed seven hits and six runs in four innings, walking three and whiffing four. Colorado pitchers aided San Diego’s offense by issuing seven walks, including one to Fernando Tatis Jr. with the bases filled to start a three-run sixth inning. Merrill followed with a two-run double off the glove of diving shortstop Ezequiel Tovar for a 9-4 advantage.

Wasted in the loss was a big game by Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak. He went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI. Moniak followed Edouard Julien’s leadoff single by rifling a two-run homer into the seats in right in the top of the first.

Dodgers 6, Rangers 3

LOS ANGELES — A four-run first inning for the host Los Angeles Dodgers, with a leadoff home run from Shohei Ohtani and a three-run shot from Teoscar Hernandez, keyed a win against the Texas Rangers.

Ohtani had not had an extra-base hit or an RBI at Dodger Stadium this season, doing much of his damage on the road. It took four pitches in the bottom of the first inning to end that drought, as Ohtani sent a Jack Leiter slider int  the seats in right field to tie the game at 1.

The Rangers led briefly on Brandon Nimmo’s home run two pitches into the game off Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan. Nimmo added a two-run home run in the sixth off Sheehan, and had three of the Rangers’ four hits.

Hernandez, Ohtani and Will Smith had two hits each for the Dodgers, who won their seventh game in the past eight.
