Willson Contreras homered against his former team and tied a career high with four hits as the Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 on Sunday.Contreras finished with three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the second inning. He also added singles in the third, fourth and seventh innings. Trevor Story also had four hits in the win for Boston.

Brayan Bello earned the victory, allowing two runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.

St. Louis got home runs from Jordan Walker, who hit his major league-leading seventh of the season, and Alec Burleson. However, Andre Pallante took the loss after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits in five innings.

Boston broke the game open in the fourth inning when Jarren Duran delivered a three-run double and later scored to extend the lead to 7-1.

Masyn Winn missed his second straight game for the Cardinals with a knee bruise after being hit by a pitch earlier in the series.

The Cardinals will be back in action Monday as they take on the Red Sox. First pitch from Busch Stadium is set for 6:45 with pregame coverage by Ameren Total Access beginning at 5:50.
