Announced by the organization Friday afternoon, the Detroit Tigers have promoted former Alabama Crimson Tide pitcher Dylan Smith for what would be his MLB debut.

A former third round pick by Detroit in the 2021 MLB draft out of Alabama, Smith has spent the past three-to-four years in the minor leagues of the Tigers’ system.

At Alabama from 2019-21, Smith was one of the Crimson Tide’s top pitchers during the 2021 season as a starter in which he owned a 3.84 ERA with a 113:20 K:BB ratio across 98.1 innings pitched. Over his time at Alabama overall, Smith owned a 4.30 ERA across 121.1 inning pitched, with 17-of-33 career appearances having been starts.

So far this season, the right-hander has pitched solely as a reliever between Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie, making a combined 14 appearances between the two. Across his 22.1 innings pitched, Smith owns a combined 1.61 ERA with three saves and a 32:8 K:BB ratio.
