The Alton Redbirds and Father McGivney Griffins were treated a MLB experience Friday at St. Louis.
With the St. Louis Cardinals in Houston, Alton and McGivney played at Busch Stadium with the Griffins defeating the Redbirds 11-5 in a six-inning high school baseball game. McGivney is 14-4. Alton is 8-9.
The Redbirds sent 16 different batters to the plate and six different pitchers to the mound. The Griffins used 14 batters and four pitchers.
Alton led 5-0 before McGivney drew even with five runs in the second inning and five more runs in the third. Ty Etcheson had three hits and four RBI for McGivney, which got two hits from Jack Rolves and two RBI apiece from Omar Ovalos, Scott Phelps at Patrick Gierer. William Heinz pitched one inning of relief and got the win.
The Redbirds were limited to two hits – a single from Alex Pilger and a three-run triple from Nathanael Rich – but drew nine walks.
