DENVER – Munetaka Murakami went deep in back-to-back games for his seventh home run as the Chicago White Sox endured a 7-6 walk-off loss in 11 innings against the Athletics on Saturday.
A day after belting his first MLB grand slam, the rookie had a solo shot in the seventh inning for a 6-4 lead at Sutter Health Park, clobbering a 2-2 curveball outside from Hogan Harris over the center-field fence with no outs.
“I was down to my last strike and swung, focusing on making contact,” Murakami said. “I think what I’ve been managing to do best is to have the same preparation every day and take on games the same way.”
Despite giving up five runs in the second, the A’s tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Nick Kurtz two-run shot before walking off with a win on a sacrifice fly in the 11th.
Yusei Kikuchi threw six shutout innings on four hits with eight strikeouts but did not figure in a decision as the Los Angeles Angels lost 4-1 to the San Diego Padres.
Shohei Ohtani extended his Japanese record by reaching in 50 consecutive MLB games, getting a ninth-inning single in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-3 loss against the Colorado Rockies as their four-game winning run ended.
Kazuma Okamoto singled in a run while going 2-for-4 as the Toronto Blue Jays went down 6-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks for their fourth straight defeat.
