Austin Hedges has more than one win to celebrate.

After defeating the Baltimore Orioles with an 8-4 victory on Sunday, April 19, the catcher for the Cleveland Guardians, 33, brought even more excitement onto the field when he got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Lexi Dickinson.

As seen in photos from the proposal, a simple message appeared on the Progressive Field jumbotron, reading, “Lexi WILL YOU MARRY ME?”

With just a few of his teammates remaining on the field, Hedges got down on one knee and popped the question while still in full uniform. In response, Dickinson immediately said yes.

“I’ve had the ring since early spring training but was just trying to figure out when the right time was,” Hedges told reporters, per ESPN. “I was going to do it regardless … but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special.”

“I had a lot of nerves today,” he continued. “I’m always nervous for baseball games, but just trying to stay present, knowing there were some activities after made it harder. It was a special day. A special day to be able to soak it all in.”

While Dickinson celebrated with her family and friends on the field, Hedges went into the locker room to take a quick shower and came back out in a maroon suit.

“Now, we’re going to go to dinner,” he said, per the outlet. “Then, just have a night to ourselves and enjoy it.”

After debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2015, Hedges went on to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Texas Rangers, with whom he won the 2023 World Series. Throughout his career, he has spent six of his 12 big-league seasons in Cleveland.
