The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis and placed right-hander Braxton Ashcraft on the Major League Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List.
Sanders was recalled by the Pirates last Friday and allowed four runs on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 18. He was optioned back to Indianapolis the following day.

In eight appearances with Indianapolis on the season, Sanders has a 2.25 ERA (2er/8.0ip) with eight walks and 15 strikeouts.
Ashcraft has made five starts for the Pirates this season and is 1-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .202 with a .559 OPS against him.
By being placed on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List, Ashcraft will miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven. He had been scheduled to start for the Pirates when they return to PNC Park on Monday night to face the St. Louis Cardinals.
