The Chicago White Sox look to win the only series of the season against the Washington Nationals at home on Sunday.

This first and only series of the season between the Washington Nationals and Chicago White Sox is all tied up going into the finale on Sunday afternoon. The Nationals ended a three-game losing streak with a 6-3 final in 10 innings in Game 2 to tie the series. Chicago just missed out on winning three in a row in the loss and four of its last five. These two are fairly evenly matched on paper. Washington is 12-16 on the season and is in third in the NL East standings, with a 9-6 away record. Chicago is fourth in the AL Central with an 11-16 overall mark but a 4-7 home record. Still, the White Sox are just 3.5 games out of first place in the tighter division. The White Sox will be the -131 favorites at home to win this series on Sunday. Chicago will start Bryan Hudson in the finale, who is looking for his first win of the season. The lefty is 0-0 with a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. Foster Griffin will go for the Nationals. This will be a battle of two lefties, with Griffin looking to stay perfect to open the season. He has been one of the best pitchers in the Washington rotation so far with a 3-0 record and a 3.38 ERA in 26.2 innings.

The Nationals bounced back to tie the series with an impressive performance in the 10th inning, scoring more runs than they did in regulation. Washington scored two runs in the fourth off an RBI single from Nasim Nunez, but the Nationals couldn’t score again until extras. Nunez came up clutch again in the 10th, scoring two more runs off another RBI single for a total of four on the night. Chicago scored two in the bottom of the eighth off an RBI single from Everson Pereira, and the tying run came on a sac fly from Chase Meidroth. The White Sox scored in the bottom of the 10th on another sac fly, but it wasn’t enough to rally from Washington’s breakout in the top of the inning. Jake Irving pitched great for the Nationals, going 5.2 scoreless innings and only giving up four hits, but he didn’t get the win.
