The New York Mets and their offense have looked for a big day for quite a while. Even against teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, and most recently the Colorado Rockies, runs have been hard to come by for New York’s offense. On Saturday, however, the Mets made a change to that. Their offense gave their ace, Kodai Senga, big run support in an 8-2 win over the Rockies. Mets Offense Gets Big First Inning

Right out of the gate, New York was down 1-0 after Senga allowed a home run to Ezequiel Tovar in the top of the 1st inning. In the bottom half, the Mets would pick up Senga thanks to a four-run inning. Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Juan Soto all got on base to load the bases. Two batters later, Baty almost had a grand slam as he hit a blast into the gap in right-center field to clear the bases, and Baty notched a triple. Tyrone Taylor would drive Baty in with a single. From there, the Mets had a 4-1 lead and would later extend it.

Nimmo & Soto Go Back-To-Back

Ever since manager Carlos Mendoza made the switch to have Brandon Nimmo bat in the two-spot, Nimmo has responded by hitting very well. In the bottom of the 4th inning, after a Lindor single, Nimmo crushed a two-run home run into the bullpen. Soto then followed with an opposite-field home run. Nimmo and Soto both homered on back-to-back pitches. All in all, it gave the Mets a 7-1 lead. Jeff McNeil would cap off the scoring with a solo home run in the 8th inning.

Strong Outing For Senga

After the home run he allowed to Tovar, Senga cruised from there. He retired 17 in a row and went 6 1/3 innings pitched and struck out seven while allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits. Senga lowered his ERA to 1.60.

Player of the Game: Kodai Senga

Senga was dominant after the first inning home run as his strong season continues. The righty struck out seven over 6 1/3 innings. Senga has now started 11 games this season and allowed two earned runs or less in 10 of them.
