NASHVILLE – The University of South Carolina baseball team scored three times in the top of the second but gave up five in the bottom of the fourth in a 5-3 loss to Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon (May 16) at Hawkins Field.

Carolina scored three runs in the top of the second off of four hits. Talmadge LeCroy opened the frame with a single. Jake Randolph followed with a single to put a pair of runners on base. After a flyout to center moved LeCroy to third, Will Craddock brought him home with an infield single. Luke Yuhasz then doubled to the gap in left, scoring a pair.

Vanderbilt put up a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth, capped by a three-run home run from Ryker Waite.

Riley Goodman started for the Gamecocks, striking out four and allowing two runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. Alex Philpott was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs in 1.1 innings. Cooper Parks struck out three in 3.1 hitless innings of relief.

Carolina had four hits on the day with Craddock and Yuhasz driving in a run apiece.

POSTGAME NOTES

Yuhasz now has 10 doubles on the season, becoming the fifth Gamecock with double digits in doubles.
Goodman now has 25 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.
Craddock was hit by two pitches and now has 16 hit by pitches on the season.
