ROUND ROCK, Texas (KLTV) – The Spring Hill Panthers and the Overton Mustangs are headed to Round Rock this week to compete for state championships.
Spring Hill will be playing in the 4A Division II championship game, while Overton will be in the 2A Division II game.
The Spring Hill Panthers are making their second-straight state appearance and first appearance in the championship game. The Panthers lost to Corpus Christi Calallen 3-2 in eight innings in last year’s state semifinal. Spring Hill has reached Round Rock by beating Canton in the bi-district round, Farmersville in area, Van Alstyne in the regional semifinals, Carthage in the regional final and Brock in the state semifinals. The Panthers hold a 34-7 overall record.
The Overton Mustangs are making their third appearance at state and first appearance in the championship game. The Mustangs made the state semifinals in 2009 and 2011. Overton’s path to Round Rock included beating LaPoynor in bi-district, Simms Bowie in area, Gary in the regional semifinals, Beckville in the regional final and Burton in the state semifinals. The Mustangs have an overall record of 31-8.
All state championship games will be played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
