The Knights are still treading water, as they are worse than .500, but they are within striking distance of an even season. In May, nobody helped the Knights more than catcher Kyle Teel, 23, who was firing on all cylinders. In 22 games, Teel went 25-for-75 with five homers, six doubles, and 15 walks. Teel also swiped four bases without getting caught. From the end of April and the end of May, Teel’s OPS jumped from .752 to .885. The Red Sox drafted Teel in the first round in 2023, and he came to the White Sox organization in the Garrett Crochet trade. There is still a long way to go in terms of judging that trade, but so far both teams are thrilled by the results.
Colson Montgomery bounced back, finishing the month of May with an .883 OPS in 51 at-bats with the Knights. Montgomery got off to a slow start to the month, struggling on a brief rehab assignment with the ACL White Sox. However, he turned it around and is now looking much more like the player we expected to see.

The Barons had a strong month, winning 15 of 27, and they have climbed to the top of the Southern League North division. They lead the Chattanooga Lookouts by 2.5 games.
Pitcher Jake Palisch, 26, started the season as a reliever and his first eight appearances came out of the bullpen. However, Palisch has been a starter since May 8, and he made the most of his time on the mound. In May, Palisch allowed two runs on seven hits in 24 innings, good for a 0.75 ERA and a .092 batting average for opposing hitters. Palisch handled the transition to starting games about as well as he could have, and that was enough to earn MVP honors.
The pitching staff had plenty of strong performances all around. Peyton Pallette and Garrett Schoenle performed admirably from the bullpen, combining to allow only one earned run in 20 innings. As for the starters, Shane Murphy was impressive, allowing only four earned runs in 26 1⁄3 innings. Murphy struck out 26 and only walked a pair, a phenomenal ratio.

There was not a ton to celebrate for the Dash, who only collected nine victories in May. From the offense, among players with at least 50 at-bats, Braden Montgomery led the way with a solid .762 OPS. While Montgomery’s progress has been a great story overall, it is a bit disappointing that nobody on the team topped that mark in May.
Reliever Mark McLaughlin, 24, provided Winston-Salem with some strong innings from the bullpen. McLaughlin racked up 22 strikeouts in 15 1⁄3 innings while only issuing five walks and allowing just one homer. After this excellent month, McLaughlin’s ERA is down to 2.70, and his FIP is down to 2.84. The White Sox drafted McLaughlin in the seventh round in 2022, and he is in uncharted territory in terms of his strikeout rate. McLaughlin is now averaging 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings, a very high number that is easily the highest of his professional career.

The Cannon Ballers had a decent month, narrowly finishing the month better than .500. However, although the Cannon Ballers briefly led the Carolina League South, the GreenJackets finished on a hot streak, and Kannapolis trails them by two games.
Shortstop Caleb Bonemer, 19, went on a tear for the Cannon Ballers. Bonemer was very difficult for opposing pitchers to retire, and he finished the month with a .950 OPS. Overall, Bonemer is slashing .296/.429/.493 (158 wRC+), providing a ton of offense from a premium defensive position. The White Sox selected Bonemer in the second round in the 2024 draft, and so far, he is exceeding the high expectations.

The ACL White Sox broke even in their first month of the season, winning 10 of their 20 games. They finished on a high note, winning their last three.
Adrian Gil contributed to the offense in many ways to claim the Player of the Month award. Gil played all over the infield except for shortstop last year. This year, most of his playing time has been at first base, but he has also moved to catcher. Gil went 15-for-60, but he made those hits count. Gil launched five homers, along with a triple and three doubles. Gil also displayed great plate discipline, drawing 10 walks, and he stole five bases in six attempts.
