The Dodgers on Monday acquired pitcher Will Klein from the Mariners for minor league pitcher Joe Jacques. To make room on the active and 40-man rosters, Chris Stratton was designated for assignment. But that wasn’t the only move, as Ryan Loutos was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City, and Noah Davis was optioned.
Stratton and Davis, both in-season pickups, each pitched two innings in relief on Sunday to finish out a loss to the Yankees. Stratton also pitched an inning on Saturday.
Klein pitched in the majors for the Royals and A’s last season, and allowed nine runs and 12 hits in 7⅓ innings in his eight games, with seven strikeouts and six walks. The 25-year-old right-hander was called up by the Mariners one day in April this year, but did not pitch.
With Triple-A Tacoma, Klein had a 7.17 ERA and three saves in 22 games, with 32 strikeouts and 19 walks in 21â…“ innings.
Seattle designated Klein for assignment on Saturday. Klein is using his second option year in 2025, and has thus far been optioned once during the season.
Klein last pitched for Tacom on Friday, making him the most valued commodity for Dodgers purposes — a fresh arm. Loutos last pitched on Saturday, and allowed two runs in his third consecutive two-inning appearance. Loutos, acquired from the Cardinals on May 1, pitched once so far for the Dodgers, allowing two runs in an inning against the Angels on May 16.
The Dodgers could get Michael Kopech back some time this week, as the right-hander pitched his ninth and potentially final rehab game for Oklahoma City on Sunday. Kirby Yates, out since May 18 with a right hamstring strain, might be ready to return by this weekend if all goes well this week.
Jacques signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in November and was a non-roster invitee during spring training. The 30-year-old left-hander had a 6.04 ERA and three saves in 18 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, with 24 strikeouts and eight walks in 22â…“ innings.
