PLATTE, S.D. — Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Platte area forced the postponement of two District 5B amateur baseball tournament games on Saturday, shifting the two games of the tournament schedule back by one day.

The opening game between the Parkston Mudcats and Mount Vernon was postponed in the middle of the third inning with Mount Vernon leading 5-3. Play will resume at 5 p.m. Sunday in Platte, with the Mudcats coming to bat in the bottom of the third inning.

Saturday’s second matchup between the Parkston Rays and Dimock/Emery, which was scheduled to follow the Parkston Mudcats-Mount Vernon contest, was also postponed. That game will now be played Sunday night immediately following the completion of the resumed game between the Parkston Mudcats and Mount Vernon.

As a result of the schedule change, the District 5B semifinal doubleheader will now feature Alexandria taking on Platte at 6 p.m. on Monday, followed by the winner of the Parkston Mudcats-Mount Vernon game facing the winner of the Parkston Rays-Dimock/Emery matchup at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday.

Tuesday’s elimination games remain on the schedule in Platte, with Corsica facing Winner/Colome at 6 p.m. The second elimination game at 8 p.m. will pit the loser of the Parkston Mudcats-Mount Vernon contest against the loser of the Parkston Rays-Dimock/Emery game.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
