CINCINNATI – It’s going to be a premier pitching matchup on Tuesday night, June 3, as the Milwaukee Brewers go for their ninth straight victory in another matchup against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
Right-hander Freddy Peralta (5-3, 2.77) looks to reverse a recent trend of short starts for the Brewers, while right-hander Hunter Greene (4-3, 2.63) counters for the Reds.
The Reds even it up
Peralta made it seven strikeouts when he got Gavin Lux looking at a called third to open the Cincinnati fourth.
Then, Elly De La Cruz just missed homering to left, instead settling for a double, and Tyler Stephenson followed with a two-run, opposite-field homer to right to knot the score at 2-2.
Sal Frelick gets a hold of one
With two outs in the fourth, Greene left an 0-2 splitter out over the plate and Sal Frelick didn’t miss it, yanking it just over the wall in right for a 2-0 Brewers lead and a new career high in homers with four.
Milwaukee then went on to load the bases, but with two outs Joey Ortiz struck out.
Peralta, meanwhile, made quick work of the Reds with six strikeouts over the first three innings. He allowed only one hit, a single by Santiago Espinal.
A quick lead against Hunter Greene
Brice Turang opened with a double to right and it looked as though he was going to score on Jackson Chourio’s drive to left, only to have Will Benson track it down in the gap with a sliding grab.
No matter, as Christian Yelich followed with a single to left to drive in Turang one batter later and put Milwaukee in front.
Yelich’s hitting streak is now 10 games, and his average .236 after that hit.
