COVENTRY – Chris Daigneault cautioned prior to the start of the playoffs that his team’s overall success would be largely dependent on their productivity at the plate.
Unfortunately for the Oakers, their head coach was right on the money.
After opening with a 6-2 victory over No. 11 Moses Brown in the qualifying round, No. 6 Coventry went on to suffer back-to-back defeats at the hands of No. 3 Chariho and No. 7 Smithfield, the latter coming by a 2-1 final in nine innings last Friday, bringing an official end to the Oakers’ 2025 season.
“We just didn’t hit enough,” Daigneault said of his team’s offensive shortcomings down the stretch. “Four hits in two playoff games is not going to cut it.”
