Former Tennessee pitcher Seth Halvorsen is headed back up to the show. The Los Angeles Dodgers are calling up Halvorsen after trading for him last month, The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya first reported on Monday night.

The Dodgers traded prospects Nick Frasso and Landyn Vidourek to the Colorado Rockies for Halvorsen two weeks ahead of the trade deadline. Halvorsen was coming back from injury when the Dodgers traded for him with Colorado originally placing Halvorsen on the Injured List on July 4.

Halvorsen made one appearance in Triple-A Albuquerque before Colorado traded him to Los Angeles. The former Tennessee standout made six appearances in Triple-A Oklahoma City, posting 6.1 scoreless innings, since joining the Dodgers organization.

Halvorsen boasts a 4.74 ERA and 1.95 WHIP in 21 appearances and just 19 innings pitched at the big league level this season.

The right-handed pitcher made his MLB debut during the 2024 season and quickly found his footing on the big league squad, posting a 1.46 ERA in his 12 appearances. Halvorsen had his longest stretch in the show during the 2025 season when he posted a 4.99 ERA in 39.2 innings pitched.

Colorado drafted Halvorsen in the seventh round of the 2023 MLB Draft after spending two years, but playing just one season, at Tennessee.

Halvorsen transferred from Missouri to Tennessee following his freshman season but an injury kept Halvorsen from pitching during the 2022 season. He then became one of the top arms in Tennessee’s bullpen during the 2023 season.

As part of a loaded Volunteer pitching staff, Halvorsen posted a 3-3 record and 3.81 ERA in 52 innings pitched in 2023. He was a key part of Tennessee’s run to the College World Series. His 3.1 no-hit innings in the Vols’ wild 13 inning victory over Clemson was crucial in Tennessee advancing to the super regionals.

Halvorsen is one of 12 former Tennessee players to make it to the MLB since COVID-19, joining Garrett Stallings, Chad Dallas, Garrett Crochet, Chase Dollander, Andre Lipcius, Jordan Beck, Drew Gilbert, Blade Tidwell, Christian Moore, Trey Lipscomb and Ben Joyce.

The back-to-back World Series champs are scuffling to begin August, having lost eight of their last 10 games. Still, Los Angeles boasts a 71-48 record, have a 7.5-game lead in the NL West and the second best record in the MLB.
