The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated newly-signed right-hander Jose Urena. In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-hander Will Klein to Triple-A. Catcher Chuckie Robinson was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Klein was acquired via a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Monday in exchange for southpaw Joe Jacques.

Urena started off 2025 on a minor league deal with the New York Mets, which ironically may be the first team he pitches against as a member of the Dodgers.

After just one outing for New York, Urena allowed five runs across three innings before being designated for assignment. He was then signed by the Toronto Blue Jays.

During six appearances in Toronto, Urena posted a 3.65 ERA across 12.1 innings pitched. This past Saturday, he was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays.

Urena has a 4.78 career ERA, but also has 963.2 innings of work to his name. Perhaps the Dodgers were interested in his proven durability and consistency over the past 11 seasons as the bullpen needs both of those traits desperately.

The Dodgers collectively have 12 blown saves which is the third-highest mark in the majors this season. L.A. has also lost 10 games in relief which is the seventh-highest total in MLB this year.

As for Klein, he will head to Triple-A after being recently acquired by the Dodgers.

The right-hander has made 22 appearances for Seattle’s Triple-A affiliate, posting a 7.17 ERA over 21.1 innings of work. Last season, Klein made eight MLB appearances with the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics, pitching 7.1 innings and allowing nine runs in the process.

As for Robinson, he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, claimed off of waivers by the Dodgers on Saturday, and DFA’d by the Dodgers Tuesday.

Urena will look to bring his experience to a pitching roster that currently has 15 arms on the injured list and throw quality innings for the Dodgers.
