The Los Angeles Angels (28-32) are on the verge of sweeping the Boston Red Sox (29-34) after Tuesday’s 4-3 win in 10 innings. Alex Cora’s squad out-hit Los Angeles 10-8, but they also had three errors.

Meanwhile, Ron Washington’s Angels were unblemished in the field and delivered offensively at the end of the game. Left fielder Taylor Ward came up with the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the 10th and drove in shortstop Zach Neto on a double play. Southpaw Reid Detmers then pitched a clean inning in the bottom of the frame to earn his first-ever save.

“We keep making the same mistakes. We’re not getting better,” he said. “At one point it has to be on me I guess, right? I’m the manager. I’ve gotta keep pushing them to get better. They’re not getting better. They’re not. We keep making the same mistakes.”

Boston also lost 7-6 to Los Angeles on Monday and is 2-8 in its last 10 games.
The Red Sox are now 10 games behind the New York Yankees (37-22) for first place in the AL East and five out of a Wild Card Spot. Meanwhile, the Angels are five games behind the Seattle Mariners (32-26) and Houston Astros (33-27) for first place in the AL West and 4.5 out of a Wild Card spot.
Los Angeles and Boston will play one more game on Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park to end their series.
