Minnesota Twins (32-27) starting pitcher Pablo Lopez has helped the team succeed this season, as his 2.75 ERA entering Tuesday’s start vs. the Athletics was the best in their rotation. It was also the best of his career so far, although it was only through 10 starts.

Lopez was on his way to another quality start on Tuesday, as he allowed just two earned runs on four hits through five innings, including four strikeouts against three walks. The 29-year-old also tossed 43 strikes out of 72 pitches.
However, Lopez pulled himself out of the game with an injury after a warmup pitch before the sixth inning.

The former Miami Marlin was replaced by right-handed reliever Cole Sands, who entered Tuesday with a 2.88 ERA through 26 appearances. The Twins were up 5-2 when Lopez exited.
While it was initially unclear why Lopez exited the game, Minnesota has since announced an update. Per the team, he left with right shoulder tightness (via Dan Hayes of The Athletic).
Minnesota fell behind 2-0 early on, but right fielder Willi Castro got the club on the board with a 395-foot solo homer to left in the top of the fourth. Designated hitter Trevor Larnach followed up with a 432-foot solo shot to right center in the sixth, leveling the score at 2-2.

Castro then hit his second homer in the sixth, another solo bomb that gave the Twins a 3-2 lead. Center fielder Byron Buxton added a two-run single in the same frame, bringing the score to 5-2.
Minnesota beat the Athletics 10-4 on Monday and will face them two more times before hosting the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
