Craig Counsell Provides Major Injury Update on Cubs’ Kyle Tucker originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Some Chicago Cubs fans have started to believe that Kyle Tucker’s injury is a bit worse than the front office and coaching staff are making it seem. After exiting Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds after jamming his right ring finger, Tucker has yet to play in a game since.

Some have wondered if his injury is more serious than they’ve suggested, but according to Craig Counsell again, it isn’t that big of a deal.
Marquee Sports reported that Counsell said on Wednesday afternoon that he’s doing much better, and that he hit in the cage. He added that they’ll give him another day and will look to see how he feels on Thursday.
“Much better today,” Counsell told reporters in Washington on Wednesday afternoon. “He hit in the cage today. Just still feeling it.

“So we’ll give him another day, but definitely made progress from yesterday to today and optimistic about tomorrow.”

The Cubs have played excellent baseball; Tucker is a big reason why.
Perhaps they could allow him to sit for the next few games if there are any thoughts about him worsening his injury, but the reality is, they need him in the lineup to be the team they’re looking to be.
Tucker is hitting /284 with an impressive 12 home runs, posting a 163 OPS+. After nearly a decade of swinging the bat at a high level for the Houston Astros, that’s continued for the Cubs.
For a team looking to win a World Series, they understand that Tucker has to be on the field. If not, the season will go south quickly.
