CBS Sports | Matt Snyder: Giancarlo Stanton is nearing a return to live action. Stanton has been taking BP this week and Aaron Boone told reporters that Stanton could “potentially” start a rehab assignment next week. It’s unclear how long the Yankees would want Stanton to rehab in the minors. Once Stanton does return, it could produce a bit of a logjam, with Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt both standing to see Stanton eat into their at-bats.
ESPN: Oswaldo Cabrera expressed hope that he could still return to the Yankees this season. “They told me that it’s a small possibility,” Cabrera said before Thursday’s game against Cleveland. “That is a small possibility, but a small possibility that I trust that one. So I’m a very optimistic guy that feels like good things can be on my way. So we’re going to work to get back soon.” Cabrera suffered a gruesome ankle injury last month in Seattle and currently has his left leg elevated on a scooter in a walking boot.
New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: Jasson Domínguez is back and “good to go”, said Boone. The 22-year-old outfielder suffered a left thumb contusion after jamming his thumb trying to steal a base Sunday night in Los Angeles. Domínguez missed two games with the injury, but looked OK during batting practice on Wednesday and was back in the lineup hitting seventh on Thursday.
Yahoo Sports | Kristie Ackert: Boone said Thursday that the Yankees were building Marcus Stroman up as a starter as he rehabs from a knee injury. Stroman has been throwing live BP as he nears the start of a rehab assignment. Though the Yankees say he’ll he built up as a starter, there’s currently no room in their starting five. Stroman said before the season that he wouldn’t shift to the bullpen, and there’s certainly a chance that an injury elsewhere thrusts Stroman back into the rotation, but as of now he’s on the outside looking in.
