CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A Cape Girardeau man is facing charges in connection with an assault investigation.
Christopher L. Ramsey was arrested on assault first-degree or attempt-serious physical injury or special victim, armed criminal action and burglary first-degree charges.
According to a probable cause statement, Ramsey is accused of breaking into a Cape Girardeau apartment around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4 and hitting a man with a wooden baseball bat several times.
Charging documents state the victim was hit repeatedly about the head and body with a baseball bat.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
A friend of the victim told police they reported the break-in because the victim was fearful of retaliation if he talked to police.
A few hours later, the friend contacted police stating Ramsey had broken into the same apartment again.
Police said the victim was back at the apartment and told them that Ramsey had attacked him with a wooden bat for a second time.
Ramsey was arrested and is being held on $50,000 cash or surety bond.
He is scheduled to be in court at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 9.
