Jimmy Mussina knocked in two runs and got the win in relief as Montoursville defeated Fleetwood 6-4 in a PIAA Class 4A quarterfinal baseball game on Thursday.

Montoursville, the District 4 champion, advances to Monday’s semifinals against District 1 champion Pope John Paul II at 4 p.m. at North Schuylkill High School.

Mussina came on in relief in the third inning with the Tigers leading 3-0 with the bases loaded and no outs, and got three straight outs to get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the third, Montoursville scored 5 runs as Mussina stroked a two-run double to take a 5-3 lead.

For the Tigers, Ashton Hartkopf tripled and scored a run, and Landon Walk singled and had 2 RBIs.

PIAA softball

Kristin Cook went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs as West Allegheny defeated Twin Valley 5-2 in a PIAA Class 5A softball quarterfinal game on Thursday.

West Allegheny, third in District 7, advances to Monday’s semifinals to play District 7 runner-up Penn-Trafford at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in McMurray.

For the Raiders (21-6), Ella Herbst went 3 for 3 a run scored and Hailie Barton went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Ava Henke and Maylee Rider homered for West Allegheny.

In the 6A quarterfinals, Central Dauphin edged Wilson 4-3 to advance to Monday’s semifinals and will play Perkiomen Valley.

Wilson finishes the season 22-6.
